KUT Logo

Fifth grade Barton Hills Choir members are scheduled to record a show of Christmas music at KUT in Studio 1A on Friday, December 17. The show will air the following week – watch this web site for specific date and time.

Meanwhile, here are six rehearsal songs to practice for the KUT show. Musicians for these recordings are:

  • Gavin Tabone, bass and piano
  • Aaron “Hair Doctor” Dembe, guitar
  • Jake “Mr. Bubbles” Perlman, drums

Fun facts:

  • The Christmas Song (more commonly recognized by the beginning verse “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”) was written by Mel Torme and Bob Wells in 1944 in the middle of a blistering hot summer.
  • According to BMI “The Christmas Song” is the most performed Christmas song. One of the most recent artists to record it is Vanessa Doofenshmirtz for Phineas and Ferb Holiday Favorites.

Fun facts about Jingle Bell Rock:

  • Jingle Bell Rock was originally recorded by Bobby Helms and released just a few days before Christmas in 1957. It was a big hit, and for four of the next five years it repeated as a top hit and became a Christmas classic still played each holiday season.
  • Dozens of artists have recorded it, including the Jonas Brothers, Hilary Duff, Billy Idol, Brenda Lee, Bill Haley and the Comets, and even Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem of the Muppet Show.
  • You don’t want to miss hearing the Barton Hills Choir perform Jingle Bell Rock at the Zilker Tree Lighting on December 5.
