Fun facts:

  • “Sir Duke” was written by Steve Wonder in tribute to jazz legend Duke Ellington. The lyrics also refer to Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong and Ella Fitzgerald.
  • “Pleasant Valley Sunday,” made famous by The Monkees in 1967, was written by Gerry Goffin and Carole King about life in suburbia.  Goffin’s and King’s inspiration for the name was a street named Pleasant Valley Way, in West Orange, New Jersey where they were living at the time.

Barton Hills Choir performs at the Erwin Center prior to Davis Cup competition (click to enlarge)

On Saturday, July 9 the Barton Hills Choir entertained a sold-out Erwin Center crowd with an 8 minute set before Davis Cup doubles competition began between the United States and Spain. They were shuttled in style to the Erwin Center  in Mr. Van Nort’s bus after a short warmup at the school, and as the photograph by Alec Harris above shows, featured prominently during their performance on the giant Erwin Center scoreboard video screens.

Check out more photographs in this flickr photoset, and watch this web site for video of the performance coming soon.
