On December 5 the Barton Hills Choir sang three cheerful holiday songs at the annual lighting of the Zilker Tree. Lynn Williamson shot this video of the performance. The choir included 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from Barton Hills Elementary, many wearing festive Santa hats, elf ears, or reindeer antlers.

The set list for this 6:57 video includes:

  • Sleigh Ride (2:15)
  • Winter Wonderland (2: 17)
  • Jingle Bell Rock (2:25)

The Barton Hills Choir recorded “Sleigh Ride” and “Winter Wonderland” at the Fox 7 Austin studios in downtown Austin on Wednesday, December 1. They are scheduled to air during Christmas week (watch this site for updates). Musicians accompanying the choir included Gavin Tabone on keyboard, Aaron “Hair Doctor” Dembe on electric guitar, and Mitchell Billeaud on sleigh bells.

KUT Logo

Fifth grade Barton Hills Choir members are scheduled to record a show of Christmas music at KUT in Studio 1A on Friday, December 17. The show will air the following week – watch this web site for specific date and time.

Meanwhile, here are six rehearsal songs to practice for the KUT show. Musicians for these recordings are:

  • Gavin Tabone, bass and piano
  • Aaron “Hair Doctor” Dembe, guitar
  • Jake “Mr. Bubbles” Perlman, drums

Fun facts:

  • The Christmas Song (more commonly recognized by the beginning verse “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”) was written by Mel Torme and Bob Wells in 1944 in the middle of a blistering hot summer.
  • According to BMI “The Christmas Song” is the most performed Christmas song. One of the most recent artists to record it is Vanessa Doofenshmirtz for Phineas and Ferb Holiday Favorites.
