You’re invited to the Sock Hop Show!

The Barton Hills Choir invites you to their 2012 Sock Hop Show, Thursday, September 27, in the school cafeteria. 5th and 6th grade choir members will be performing your favorite songs from the 50’s, including hits like:

  • Yakety Yak
  • Big Girls Don’t Cry
  • Donna/Earth Angel
  • Johnny B. Goode
  • and more!

The show is free and open to the public. Doors open at 6:30 PM, and refreshments will be provided. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to wear sock hop attire (children must be accompanied by an adult) so mark your calendar, call your family and friends, and get your poodle skirt and saddle shoes ready for a swinging evening with the Barton Hills Choir At the Hop!

BHC to perform annual Halloween show at Ruta Maya Oct. 29

Barton Hills Choir 4th and 5th graders will perform their annual Halloween show at Ruta Maya Coffee House from 2-3 PM on Saturday, October 29th. The set will consist of pop songs from the late 50’s to early 70’s.  Costumes are encouraged, but not required.

Ruta Maya is conveniently located at 3601 South Congress Avenue, and has been named one of the top 10 coffee spots in the country!  Be sure to mark your calendar now for a great show at a uniquely Austin venue.

BHC to perform at Davis Cup Quarterfinals

Fourth and fifth grade members of the Barton Hills Choir will be performing a special 8 minute set Saturday at the Frank Erwin Center before the Davis Cup Quarterfinal tennis matches begin. Immediately prior to the national anthem the choir will sing the patriotic favorite This Land Is Your Land, followed by sock hop hits Help Me Rhonda/Tossin’ and Turnin’, Love Potion Number Nine, and Splish Splash.

Gavin Tabone will direct and accompany the choir on keyboards, accompanied by Aaron “Hair Doctor” Dembe on electric guitar and Jake “Mr. Bubbles” Perlman on drums. The choir and musicians rehearsed at a sound check in the Erwin Center Thursday. You can view photos by Lynn Williamson and Alec Harris in this Flickr photoset.

This will be the largest indoor arena the choir has ever performed in, and since tickets to the event are sold out the expected crowd of 15,000 will be the largest audience to see them live. Watch this web site for photos and video of their performance coming soon!

Choir to play ACL Music Festival Sept. 16!

The Barton Hills Choir has been invited to play at the world famous Austin City Limits Music Festival, performing on Friday, September 16.  Make plans now to attend and watch this web site for additional details as the event date gets closer. For now, be sure to visit the artist web page for the Barton Hills Choir at the ACL Festival web site and add the Choir to your list of artists you plan to see.

The Choir last performed at the ACL Festival on October 10, 2009. Video and pictures of that show are available here.

UPDATE: Upon hearing who is headlining this year’s ACL festival, the choir has chosen to perform a special medley of Stevie Wonder songs.
