Plan now to attend a very special event this weekend: the lighting of the Zilker Holiday Tree. An annual tradition in Austin since 1965, the Barton Hills Choir has performed at the event each year since their inception in 2009.

The show is scheduled to start at 6 PM on Sunday, Dec. 2, but come early to get a seat up close to see the Barton Hills Choir perform holiday favorites, including:

Jingle Bell Rock

Sleigh Ride

Winter Wonderland

Parking is free, but bring funds for hot chocolate, kettle corn, and other goodies that will be available.  It’s a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit and is sure to be a night to remember.

On December 4 the Barton Hills Choir braved cold and rain to perform a set of holiday favorites at the annual Zilker Tree lighting ceremony before a surprisingly large and very appreciative audience. The choir was accompanied by several awesome local musicians including:

  • Randy Franklin – Mandolin
  • Jake Perlman – drums
  • Aaron Dembe – guitar
  • Jason Nunnenkamp – bass
  • Tom Treanor – sleigh bells

On December 5 the Barton Hills Choir sang three cheerful holiday songs at the annual lighting of the Zilker Tree. Lynn Williamson shot this video of the performance. The choir included 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th graders from Barton Hills Elementary, many wearing festive Santa hats, elf ears, or reindeer antlers.
