Zilker Tree

Mark your calendars for a very special event that will be here before you know it: the lighting of the Zilker Tree. An annual tradition since 1965, the event promises to be even more popular since the City of Austin budget for 2010-2011 did not provide funding for the famous Trail of Lights.

The show is scheduled to start at 6 PM but come early to get a seat up close to see the Barton Hills Choir perform holiday favorites, including:

Parking is free, but bring funds for hot chocolate, kettle corn, and other goodies that will be available.  It’s a wonderful way to get into the holiday spirit and is sure to be a night to remember.

Dr. Carstarphen speaks to second graders in the BHE Music Room (click to enlarge)

AISD Superintendent Dr. Meria Carstarphen visited Barton Hills on September 9, writing on her blog “The Power of Us” that:

A highlight of the visit was meeting Teacher of the Year Gavin Tabone who is a rock star! As the music teacher — who is as famous in our district as the cool folks he hangs with (like Al Roker and Lyle Lovett) — he had the students and me rocking to three songs rolled into one: the school song, Deep in the Heart of Texas, and others. It was all intermingled with several solos and much fancy action with the fingers on the piano.

Be sure to check out the entire blog post about Dr. Carstarphen’s visit to Barton Hills and see more great pictures of the second graders singing!
