Greetings fans and friends of the Barton Hills Choir!

Because you have all been so supportive of our work, I wanted you to know about some changes! My work as a choir director began in 2000 when I became the music teacher at Palm Elementary School in Austin, Texas. At Palm, I started a choir that performed original kids rock songs with local musicians. We recorded several albums and traveled the Central Texas area.

In 2009 I transferred to Barton Hills Elementary School, where the concept grew and evolved with a new group of kids. At Barton Hills, the choir expanded its repertoire of songs and traveled the country performing gigs in Wyoming, Chicago and New York.

In 2020, I resigned from my position as a music teacher with the Austin Independent School District to take care of my daughter during the pandemic and pursue new career opportunities as a freelancer but I wanted to continue the work of the choir. I wanted to see the choir grow and evolve, travel to new places, collaborate with new artists, and see what was possible on our own.

Though we’ve kept our name and our spirit, we’ve got a new look and a new format. In this next chapter, the choir will now continue to record, travel, and perform and bring our tunes to the world under The Barton Hills Choir, LLC. As always, thanks for your support and enthusiasm!

The Barton Hills Choir is excited at the prospect of performing together in front of live audiences again. Before they appear in Austin though, they’ll be traveling to Denver, Colorado to perform with Shakedown Street for two shows on Saturday, July 24 at So Many Roads Museum and Brewery.

Shakedown Street is a legendary Grateful Dead tribute band that has been performing for over three decades, with a repertoire of over 200 songs and over 1,000 shows to their credit. BHC will join them for two shows, a 2:00 PM matinee and 7:30 evening performance. Shakedown Street takes the stage for a show afterwards at 9:00.

This will be the first performance by the Choir since the pandemic began, and promises to be a memorable event. Watch this space for ticket information coming soon!

The COVID-19 pandemic has affected virtually every aspect of our world including the holiday traditions we celebrate. These circumstances have required the 2020 lighting of the Zilker Holiday Tree to be a virtual experience.

The Barton Hills Choir has performed at this event every year since 2009 when the Choir was first formed. They will continue their streak of consecutive appearances at the Zilker Holiday Tree Virtual Lighting on Sunday, November 29 at 6:00 PM.

For public safety, there are NO on site viewing or walk-up options for the 2020 ceremony. Please do not go to the tree in Zilker Park; the Choir will not be there.

To enjoy the lighting of the Zilker Holiday Tree you can tune in using any of the options below. This year you will need to provide your own hot chocolate, kettle corn, and other goodies to enjoy during the event instead of depending upon concession stands.

The Choir promises to help you get into the spirit of the season with their rousing renditions of classic holiday songs. Be sure to tune in!
