On December 17 Barton Hills Choir fifth graders visited KUT’s legendary Studio 1A to record a set of Christmas songs to be aired on Tuesday, December 21, at 2 PM on “Music with Jay Trachtenberg.”

Barton Hills Choir fifth graders recorded a set of six holiday songs at KUT’s famous Studio 1A on December 17. The performance is scheduled to air on Music With Jay Trachtenberg at 2 PM on Tuesday, December 21.

If you’re at work with internet access you can tune in to the show online. You can look forward to hearing:

Fifth grade Barton Hills Choir members are scheduled to record a show of Christmas music at KUT in Studio 1A on Friday, December 17. The show will air the following week – watch this web site for specific date and time.

Meanwhile, here are six rehearsal songs to practice for the KUT show. Musicians for these recordings are:

  • Gavin Tabone, bass and piano
  • Aaron “Hair Doctor” Dembe, guitar
  • Jake “Mr. Bubbles” Perlman, drums

Fun facts:

  • The Christmas Song (more commonly recognized by the beginning verse “Chestnuts roasting on an open fire”) was written by Mel Torme and Bob Wells in 1944 in the middle of a blistering hot summer.
  • According to BMI “The Christmas Song” is the most performed Christmas song. One of the most recent artists to record it is Vanessa Doofenshmirtz for Phineas and Ferb Holiday Favorites.

The performance by sixth grade members of the Barton Hills Choir that originally aired on KUT’s Eklektikos program is now available for listening on the KUT web site:

Eklektikos host John Aielli and Gavin Tabone talk briefly about the choir, followed by performances of these holiday favorites:

5. I Saw Three Ships (Come Sailing In)

John Aielli and Mr. Tabone talk about the band, the choir, and members introduce themselves at 6:59 in the program timeline.

“Wow, these kids are good!” proclaims Aielli at the end of their 20 minute performance. When he compliments them on their moves during “Jingle Bell Rock” you can hear the choir members giggling in the background.
